It is a well known fact that all our movements are controlled by our hip joints, which are made as a continuously mobile unit. But in reality the product turned out to be a curse for some rather than a blessing. The Depuy ASR Damage is so great that complaints started piling up once the product was launched.

Unlike other prosthetic devices, the product was whole heartedly welcomed by the public. It was in the 1970s that the modern hip resurfacing started, when a device comprising of metal bearing and a thin polythene layer was used. Though there was rising hopes about the success of the product, it proved ineffective due to the continuous movement of the metal bearings on the metal surface resulting in the dislocation of the cup. Analysts are of the opinion that the metal ions left by the bearings get into the adjacent tissues prohibiting the cup from bonding well. Thus the patients had to undergo corrective surgery to replace the product. The Depuy ASR Damage was intolerable for the patients who have already gone through the replacement surgery.

The surgeons who have done the revision surgery have revealed the fact that there was no evidence of bony ingrowth as claimed by the manufactures. The ASR hip cup revision reports also mention instances of loosening, metalosis and pseudotumour. A Depuy ASR hip class action has not taken place so far, but there is every possibility of such a happening.

The edical field has seen the appearance and vanishing of many novel products. The Depuy ASR may also become part of history considering the depth of Depuy ASR Damage. It has also to be noted that the FDA has not given its approval to the product so far.
